Life in Motion: Tracking the Alewife Migration

Protecting local ecosystems requires more than land acquisition, it depends on inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards. Across the Presumpscot River watershed, community conservation relies on hands-on involvement to maintain public trails, monitor fish populations, and preserve the natural waterways that connect local communities.

Strega Studios partnered with the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust to produce a comprehensive video and photo series documenting high school student volunteers in Westbrook, Maine.

Capturing the spirit of youth conservation requires a grounded, documentary-style approach that highlights real work in the field. The Land Trust needed visual assets that showcased student volunteers participating in the annual alewife migration count and performing essential trail maintenance across local nature preserves.

We followed the youth teams directly into the field, pairing authentic environmental footage with candid student reflections on community service and local ecology. By centering the narrative on youth leadership and hands-on participation, we brought the immediate impact of regional conservation work to life.

The resulting deliverable package includes a short-form documentary film, targeted social media reels, and a curated photo library, giving the Land Trust a multi-channel toolkit to drive donor support, recruit volunteers, and inspire regional land stewardship.
